Rhiannon is a major figure in the Welsh Maginobion, particularly the first branch where she gives birth to one of the main characters: Pryderi. In the story, she betrays the man she was betrothed to (Gwawl) and marries Pwyll, prince of Dyfed. They have to trick Gwawl so he doesn't enact revenge upon her and Pwyll and they do so by trapping him in a magic bag. Throughout the story, Rhiannon displays great intelligence, bravery, and a strong affinity for horses.
