Aquamarine is linked to many zodiac signs. Many associate it with Scorpio, and some also attribute it to Pisces or Aquarius due to it’s watery sea-like quality. For Aquarius the aquamarine promotes friendship and love, while for Pisces it encourages awareness, but it is also the stone of Taurus according to some, due to the fact that aquamarine (and the entire beryl family) are of hexagonal (six-sided) crystalline form, and six is a number belonging to Venus. Others say it is connect with Gemini, because the stone enhances communication. Even Libras get into the mix, since for them, Aquamarine helps to warn them of danger.

This blue-green beryl has an ancient connection with seas and oceans. The name “aquamarine” is derived from the Latin word for seawater (aqua marina, “water of the sea”). This is a stone of the sea and a stone of the mystic.

The Greek and Roman myths of mermaids said Aquamarine came from their treasure chests deep in their watery realms. Historically, seafarers and merchants wore aquamarine for protection and for prosperous journeys. It was also worn to prevent or minimize sea sickness.

It was said to bring victory in battle or in legal pursuits. In the Middle Ages, it was said to be an antidote for poison, unlike other stones, you did not need an elixer, it simply needed to be worn.

Used often with the Throat Chakra, Aquamarine can be used to promote verbal self-expression. It is often used to enhance spiritual communication and clear communication blocks. Aquamarine is also used to align all of the chakras and enhance the aura. The metaphysical properties of Aquamarine make it an excellent stone for the spiritual initiate.

Encouraging clarity of thought, Aquamarine can aid in the assimilation of new knowledge, making it a great crystal for students of all kinds. Aquamarine encourages intellectual growth and inner knowledge, opening one up to intuition and the super-conscious mind. Aquamarine is often used to enhance one's intellectual prowess, helping one to think quickly to come up with solutions on the fly.  Many also use Aquamarine to help with reasoning and promote logic. Carrying Aquamarine on one's person can help to remind the individual to be prepared for most any scenario that could be encountered, given the current set of circumstances.

As a communication stone, Aquamarine also had a strong mystical history. It was often used for scrying, or divining, either as a crystal ball you would gaze into, or as a pendulum or pointer on a string. Just holding or wearing the stone would help in a search for lost or hidden things. One way to use Aquamarine for scrying was to cast this ancient water stone into a bowl of pure water and then look for messages on the surface.
